Chittagong, 2nd one-dayer,
England Lions 177-4 beat Bangladesh A 176 by six wickets
Stuart Meaker claimed four wickets today in helping England Lions beat Bangladesh A in Chittagong. The Lions victory leaves the series all square at 1-1 after Bangladesh were victorious in the opening encounter.
Victory for the Lions was set up by an impressive bowling performance from the young England hopefuls, lead by Meaker. The Surrey quick bowler was in fine form as he claimed 4-47, as he helped dismiss the home side to just 176. Hampshire’s left arm spinner Danny Briggs also chipped in with two vital wickets through the middle overs.
The Lions’ response got off to the worst possible start when Jason Roy was dismissed first ball of the innings, and he was quickly followed back to the pavilion by Joe Root who made just 5. Despite an early wobble, the Lions chased down their target with some ease, with six wickets in hand.
Jonny Bairstow who featured for the full England side in India in October, made 50 not out from 65 balls. He was well supported by an unbeaten 41 from the exciting Somerset wicket-keeper Jos Buttler.
After a good victory England will be hoping to push on and secure a series win in conditions that are unfamiliar to a group of young players.
