Youngsters impress for England

England cruised to a 253 run victory over Hyderabad in their final warm-up match before the ODI series with India begins on Friday.

Warm-up matches are a great chance for fringe players to impress the selectors and Jonny Bairstow and Scott Borthwick certainly did this today.

Batting first, England posted a powerful 367-4 from their 50 overs. There were half centuries for Kieswetter, Cook, and Trott but the star of the show was without question Bairstow.

The young Yorkshirman smashed a 53 ball century which included eight sixes, and he brought up his hundred off the last ball of the England innings with a six.

England found little resistance from their opponents with both bat and ball today. England’s bowlers made light work of Hyderabad as they knocked them over for just 114. Leg spinner Scott Borthwick impressed again as he picked up 5-31. Stuart Meaker on his first tour with the senior side also picked up three wickets.

It was a good work-out for England ahead of the first ODI on Friday but they will be aware that the Indian side will provide a much sterner challenge then that of Hyderabad .
