County Championship Division 1, Aigburth
Warwickshire 329 & 71-5 beat Lancashire 250 & 148 by five wickets

Warwickshire inflicted a second straight defeat for champions Lancashire at Aigburth, as the side from the West Midlands clinched a 5 wicket victory.

Lancashire resumed day 4 on 44-4 in their second innings trailing Warwickshire by 35 runs knowing it was going to be an uphill struggle to get even a draw from the fixture. Keith Barker and Jeetan Patel made sure of the victory for the away side, as they both claimed 5 wickets in helping bowl Lancashire out for 148.

Ashwell Prince was the only Lancashire batsman to record a half century as he made 51 from 123 balls. Patel 5-52 and Barker 5-54 proved too hot to handle as the Lancashire mid-lower collapsed on a wearing surface.

Warwickshire required just 71 for victory which was easily achieved putting them top of the league. William Porterfield (22*) and Tim Ambrose (11*) were the not out batsmen.

Still very early in the season to comment properly on the sides but Warwickshire look like they could cause a lot of sides some trouble this year.
