Wilson and Porterfield win award

January 30, 2013

Gary Wilson and William Porterfield have helped Cricket Ireland to the European ICC ‘Spirit of Cricket Award’ after completing a grueling Bike Ride across Ireland to raise money for Cancer Research. The ride took place last October and lasted for five days, raising over £30,000 for the charity.

The two Irish cricketers started their journey in Cork and by the end of the five days finished in Gary’s hometown of Belfast to a hero’s reception. Here’s a closer look at the details of the ride:

Day 1: Mardyke Cricket Club to Kilkenny
Day 2: Kilkenny to Malhide Cricket Club
Day 3: Malahide Cricket Club to Armagh
Day 4: Armagh to Bready Cricket Club
Day 5: Bready Cricket Club to Stormont

The motivation for the ride came after the sad death of Gary’s mother in April 2012. Both men should be extremely proud of their achievements and the outstanding contribution they have made to Cancer Research.
