Williamson Century too good for Sri Lanka

January 21, 2015

New Zealand outclassed Sri Lanka in four-wicket victory in the fourth ODI of the series in Nelson. The Kiwi’s got over the line with 11 balls to spare in a thrilling victory at the Saxton Oval.

Sri Lanka won the toss and batted first, they were 276 all out three balls before their allotted 50 overs. The main men once again were classy at the crease with well constructed knocks of 76 from Kumar Sangakkara and a 94 from Mahela Jayawardene.

Knowing that these two won’t be around after the World cup, Sri Lanka must be quietly sweating on where their runs will come from. Angelo Matthews looks a quality player but even he can’t fire all the time.

New Zealand looked to be in control of the run chase during Kane Williamson’s century, he has been in sublime form this summer and his 5th ODI hundred is proof of the pudding.

Two big partnerships in the middle order between Williamson (103), Elliot (44) & Anderson (47) look to have settled the match but wickets at crucial moments took the game down to the wire.

In stepped Luke Ronchi after a mini collapse an he blasted 3 sixes and 1 four in a 15 ball knock of 32.

NZ take a 2-1 lead from the 4th of the 6 game ODI series against Sri Lanka.

Next game is on Friday in Dunedin and Sri Lanka will have to win to stay in the series.
