CB Series, Final, Brisbane:
Australia 321-6 (50 overs) beat Sri Lanka 306 (49.2 overs) by 15 runs

In a pulsating match in Brisbane, Australia defeated Sri Lanka in the first of the best of three CB finals to go 1-0 up.

Batting first, Australia posted a commanding 321-6, thanks to a sensational century from David Warner. The left-handed opening batsman crashed 163 from just 157 balls, in a devastating display of hitting.

Warner was well supported at the top of the order by Matthew Wade, who made 64. The pair shared 136 for the first wicket giving Australia a platform to attack. Michael Clarke added a quick-fire 37 from 25 balls to boost the home side’s progress at the back end of the innings as Australia left the field huge favourites for victory.

In reply, Australia looked to have the game wrapped up when Sri Lanka stumbled to 144-6. However, Kulasekara turned the game on its head by scoring 73 runs from just 43 balls.

Sri Lanka had put themselves into a position of strength until the returning Shane Watson delivered the knockout blow, by removing Sri Lanka’s final two batsmen, handing Australia a 15 runs victory.

Watson finished with outstanding figures of 3-33 from 9.2 overs, and saved Australia from what would have been an embarrassing defeat. David Warner was awarded man of the match.
