Trescothick out for six weeks

April 24, 2012

Somersets captain Marcus Trescothick has been ruled out for six weeks after needing an operation on an ankle injury.

The former England opening batsman sustained the injury during day 2 of Somerset’s County Championship match with Nottinghamshire.

It is a big blow for the County from the West Country who will be without their captain for what is likely to be six County Championship matches and four CB40 games. Somerset have also been hit by injuries to Vernon Philander, Steve Kirby, Adam Dibble and Gemaal Hussain.

Speaking of Trescothiock’s injury, Brian Rose told BBC Somerset: “It’s a huge blow because Marcus is the best batsman in the country. But we’ve seen the reaction at Nottingham in terms of compensating for Vernon Philander in the bowling department and the lads took up the cudgel and I think that’s what going to happen in the next six weeks.”
