England fast bowler Chris Tremlett has signed a new one year deal with Surrey County Cricket Club.

Tremlett only played in one Championship match for Surrey in 2012 after suffering with injuries. In February he underwent back surgery, and recently had an operation on his knee to repair torn cartilage.

The 31 year-old has not been awarded a central contract with England for 2013, and his last Test match was back in January against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi. The tall fast bowler has featured in 11 Test matches for England and has a successful record in taking 49 wickets at an average of 26.75.

Tremlett still harbours hopes of a return to international cricket, but he is aware that he must play injury free for Surrey next season and perform at a consistently high level. England are blessed with a number of talented quick bowlers including Steven Finn, Tim Bresnan, Graeme Onions who all at times struggle to get in the side.

After a difficult season on and off the field, Surrey rallied in the final few months to ensure that Division 1 cricket will be played at The Kia Oval next season.
