Congratulations to Sri Lanka on their success; they have treated England to a much needed wake up call. There is no doubt they are a big name on the ODI circuit and very much deserve their win.
Mahela Jayawardena and Kumar Sangakarra bowed out on their last outing on home soil. Both have been fine cricketers in their own right and it was very touching to see the fans giving them a tremendous send off. They will both go to the World Cup where they will be ending their long successful careers for their much loved national side after the tournament down under.
In the 7th ODI England once again failed to show any potential, form or leadership and again Alistair Cook’s position is called into question. The only person backing the England Captain seems to be Paul Downton (England managing director).
He goes over to Sri Lanka watches one match and says that Cook shall be in charge for the World cup! I’m sure most England fans listening to the interview will be bitterly disappointed by his choice of words. If he can’t see where we are going wrong then what hope do we have in February?
Paul Downton has a meeting with the English selectors in four days time. Any one with English cricket at heart would love to be a fly on the wall at that meeting. Something has to change and these are the guys who need to make the tough choices.
All will be revealed on Saturday when they will come out with the squad for warm up matches down under.
My 15-man squad would be:
Moeen Ali, Alex Hales, Joe Root, James Taylor, Johnny Bairstow, Gary Ballance, Ravi Bopara, Eoin Morgan, Jos Buttler, Chris Woakes , Chris Jordan, Stuart Broad (C), James Anderson, James Tredwell and Steven Finn.
