Zaheer Khan a doubt for Trent Bridge

July 27, 2011

India will wait until the last minute before deciding whether fast bowler Zaheer Khan will play at Trent Bridge on Friday in the second Test match between England and India.

Zaheer left the field on the first day of the Lord’s Test match, with a strained hamstring and did not feature with the ball for the remainder of the match. Without a full strength attack England went on to win the game by 196 runs.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni will give his fast bowler every chance of being fit before making the decision to leave him out on Friday morning. In 2007 Zaheer helped India to victory over England at Trent Bridge by taking nine wickets in the match.

If Zaheer is not fit in Nottingham then either Munaf Patel or Sreesanth will get their chance in conditions that normally favour swing bowling.

After such a heavy defeat at Lord’s, India will be under pressure to perform at Trent Bridge with the eyes of the world on Tendulkar hoping to make it to 100 hundreds.
