England on top of the World

After defeating India at Edgbaston inside four days, England have become the world’s number one ranked Test team.

England were victorious at Edgbaston by an innings and 242 runs which just highlights the gulf in class between the two sides. England have deserved their status as number one, and in the process have played a brand of exciting, dominant cricket to get there.

England have now won eight out of their last nine Test series. The only side they failed to beat was South Africa away from home, where they managed a 1-1 draw.

The Indian batsmen have looked all at sea to the swinging ball, and have failed to pass 300 in a total of six attempts this summer. It was always predicted that India’s bowlers would find it tough against England’s strong batting line up, but no one could have predicted just how much the great Indian batsman would have struggled.

After celebrating a series win against India, England’s minds will now turn to a series whitewash as they head to The Oval where the fourth Test match begins on Thursday. With the way the series has gone, it will take a minor miracle for the visitors to produce a performance they will stop this from happening.
