Sachin Tendulkar has been put forward by India’s Prime Minister for a seat in India’s upper house of parliament.

If the 39 year-old gets accepted he will become the first active sportsman in parliament. The letter of recommendation has been sent by Manmohan Singh to President Pratibha Patil who can nominate 12 people.

Tendulkar has recently become the first player in the history of the game to reach 100 international hundreds when he scored a century against Bangladesh In March.

Tendulkar is currently playing in the IPL for the Mumbai Indians and is treated like royalty wherever he goes in the country.

At the age of just 15 Tendulkar scored a first class hundred and then at 16 made his Test match debut. Just over 23 years later Tendulkar has broken record after record with bat in hand.
