T20 success for England

England defeated in last night in a Twenty20 international at Old Trafford to keep up their 100% record against the tourists this summer.

In a tight game, England won the match batting second with three balls to spare as the home side chased down their target of 166 for victory.

Batting first, India looked good for a big score at 104-1 but collapsed to 165 all out, with fast bowler Jade Dernbach claiming 4-22. The Indian batsmen were finding Dernbach’s variation in pace a hazard to scoring quickly and were losing their wickets in the process.

Opener Ajinkya Rahane top-scored for the tourists with 61 on his international debut.

England’s successful run-chase was largely thanks to a brilliant knock from Eoin Morgan. Morgan smashed 49 from 27 balls. After he was dismissed, it was left to Ravi Bopara (31 not out), and Samit Patel (25 not out) to make sure England got over the line.

England will be pleased that this one-off match was won, but their thoughts will now turn to a five match one-day series starting in Durham on Sunday where they will be hoping to further prove their dominance over India.
