Hampshire will face Somerset for the third successive year in the Friends Life T20 semi-finals while Sussex and Yorkshire will compete in the other match.

Finals day will be held on Saturday 25th August at Glamorgan’s Swalec Stadium.

In the past two meetings between Hampshire and Somerset in this stage of the competition there has been high drama. In 2010 Hampshire were victorious when the scores were tied, because Hampshire had lost less wickets. In 2011 again the scores were tied but this time Somerset came out on top after a 1 over eliminator.

Sussex made light work of Gloucestershire in their home quarter-final after a brilliant century from just 37 balls from their overseas player Scott Styris. Yorkshire booked their place in finals day with a 29 run victory over Worcestershire at Headingley.

Last year’s champions Leicestershire were knocked out in the group phase of the competition. The two top teams on the day will go through to the Champions League that will be held in October.

In the Notts v Hants game last night scores were level with one ball remaining. The Sky commentators explained that whatever happened Hants would be declared the winners. Cue anticlimactic last ball. Am I the only person who longs for the good old days of the bowl-out? That precious moment at the Oval when a chap called Murtagh ran in to bowl, hit 3 unattended stumps, ripped his shirt off and set off in wild celebration with teammates struggling to catch him.
