Chris Tremlett continued his remarkable return to Test cricket today with six wickets to help England into a dominant position against Sri Lanka.

The Surrey fast bowler returning to The Rose Bowl where he grew up playing his cricket got a standing ovation as he and the rest of the players left the field after coming off for rain, with Sri Lanka on 177-9.

In helpful conditions, Tremlett recorded career best figures of 6-43 before rain halted play after just 23.3 overs of cricket. Tremlett will be the first name on The Rose Bowl honours board as this is the Rose Bowls first Test match.

The other wicket to fall today came from the bowling of Graeme Swann, who removed the dangerous Prasanna Jayawardene for 43 in just the second ball of his spell. James Anderson picked up the other two wickets on day 1.

England will be hoping to wrap this Sri Lankan innings up, before trying to build a big first innings lead on day 3.
