England off-spinner Graeme Swann will miss England’s remaining two one-day internationals against Australia due to an elbow injury in his right arm.
Kent’s James Tredwell has been called into the squad to replace the 33 year-old Swann.
The decision has been made with England having one eye on the Test series against South Africa starting on July 19th at The Kia Oval. England currently lead Australia 2-0 in the best of five match series with just two matches to go after both teams suffered a washout at Edgbaston yesterday.
Jade Dernbach has also been ruled out of the final two matches of the series with a side strain and will be replaced by Warwickshire’s Chris Woakes.
Speaking of the decision to rest Swann, Geoff miller said: “Graeme has some pain in his elbow at the moment and we feel that an extra week’s rest will allow it to settle. We had earmarked the fourth and fifth matches as an opportunity to rest Graeme, regardless of the result at Edgbaston.”
