Sussex 110-4 (11.4 overs) beat Surrey 106-6 (16.2 overs) D/L

Sussex cruised to a six wicket victory last night at The Kia Oval in their rain affected match against Surrey and in the process qualified for this year’s quarter –finals.

Batting first, Surrey were reduced to 106-6 from 16.2 overs before the rain came. Zander de Bruyn was 30 not out at the time. Earlier Kevin Pietersen had yet again failed for Surrey by only making 8 when he was caught at long on off the bowling of Will Beer.

When the rain eventually stopped, Sussex were set a revised target of 109 from 15 overs. The visitors made light work of the Surrey total as they finished the match with 20 balls to spare, having lost just 4 wickets.

Luke Wright top scored for Sussex with 32, but there were also handy contributions from Matt Prior (25) and Chris Nash (22).

The defeat leaves Surrey bottom of the table after losing their fifth match in just seven games meaning they are now playing for just pride in the competition.
