Sussex County Cricket Club have today announced a loss of £124,000 for the year to October 2011.

The loss was largely put down to the redevelopment of the county ground at Hove because the operating income rose by 7% this year to £5.2m.

Sussex’s treasurer Simon Crundell stated: “In interpreting the club’s financial performance it is important to note that the final deficit is struck after depreciation of £403,000, which has increased materially from £233,000 in 2010, as a result of the ground redevelopment.”

In 2011, Sussex yet again showed that they are one of the leading counties on the field by finishing 5th in division 1 of the County Championship, and reaching the CB40 semi-finals, where they were defeated in a rain reduced match at The Kia Oval by Surrey.

In the last week, Sussex have announced the signing of former New Zealand international Scott Styris for this year’s FLT20 competition.
