CB Series, MCG
Sri Lanka 238 (50 overs) beat Australia 229 (49.1 overs) by 9 runs

Sri Lanka edged past Australia this morning at the MCG, and in the process qualified for the CB series final, meaning that world champions India are knocked out.

Sri Lanka batted first in Melbourne, and posted a competitive 238 from their 50 overs. This was thanks to half centuries from Kumar Sangakkara (64), Dinesh Chndimal (75) and Lahiru Thirimanne (51).

Sri Lanka could have recorded an even bigger total, had it not been for a stunning hat-trick from Dan Christian. The Australian all-rounder was the pick of the Australian bowlers with figures of 5-31 from 9 overs.

In reply Australia got off to a poor start as they were reduced to 26-3. However, Shane Watson who captained Australia in Michael Clarke’s absence, began to form a partnership with Michael Hussey. The pair took the score to 113 before Hussey was dismissed for 29.

When Watson was bowled by Malinga for 62, Australia collapsed to 187-7 still 54 runs short of their target. David Hussey (74) did his best to get Australia close but he was the last man out with 5 balls to spare, as Australia finished 9 runs short of their target.

Lasith Malinga showed his class with the ball for Sri Lanka finishing with figures of 4-49 from his 10 overs.
