Sri Lanka hope to improve record at home

June 21, 2012

Sri Lanka will be looking to build on their ODI success when they take on Pakistan in the three-Test series starting at Galle on June 22. Following a 1-1 finish to the T20I series, the hosts defeated Pakistan 3-1 in the 5-match ODI series with one game being washed out. They will now look to carry this momentum forward and look for an early lead in the Test series.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s main focus will be on the Test rankings as the visitors have a chance to move up at least a couple of places. A 2-0 series win will help Pakistan to 111 rating points which will put them on par with India, who are ranked fourth. In case of a clean-sweep, Pakistan will equal Australia at third with 112 rating points.

The primary thing that will be on the Lankans’ minds would be to improve their record against Pakistan at home. Sri Lanka have been quite poor in Tests against Pakistan in their own soil, managing to win just one series out of 6. A total of 15 Tests have been played so far between Sri Lanka and Pakistan in Sri Lanka with the hosts managing to win just 3. The visitors have won 6 matches while 6 games ended as draws.
