Sri Lanka beat Pakistan by 25 runs in Dubai and in the process levelled the five match ODI series 1-1 after two matches.

Batting first, Sri Lanka posted a score of 235-7 from their 50 overs, which in the conditions appeared to be below par.

Sri Lanka’s opening batsman Upul Tharanga top scored for the visitors with 77 valuable runs as he dropped anchor through the innings. He was well supported in the middle overs by Mahela Jayawardene who recorded yet another half century, before being dismissed by Saeed Ajmal on exactly 50.

Pakistan’s hopes of victory quickly evaporated soon after the re-start as Lasith Malinga ripped through the Pakistan top order. Pakistan were rocking at 11-3, and never really recovered as they were bowled out for just 210 in reply.

A brave 91 from 102 balls from Umar Akmal threatened to steal back the initiative for Pakistan, but when Dilhara Fernando removed the dangerous wicket-keeper batsman the game was as good as up.

Sri Lanka went on to record a 25 run victory with the run-out of Aizaz Cheema after a direct hit from Kumar Sangakkara.

The third match of the series is scheduled for Friday and is again to be played in Dubai.

Pakistan have played some good cricket since the betting scandal. Well played to Sri Lanka here though.

I hope pakistan performs well, specially Razaaq and Afridi. Would love to see Gul and Junaid smashing Sri lankan’s wicket while Malinga testing the patience of our batsmen.

    May the Best win!
