Day 5: The Kia Oval
England 385 & 240 lose to South Africa 637-2 dec by an innings and 12 runs
Dale Steyn took 5 wickets to help South Africa crush England by an innings and 12 runs in the first Investec Test match at The Kia Oval.
England would have needed something special from their batsman on day 5 with just six second innings wickets in hand on a wearing pitch.
However, Dale Steyn made sure of victory for South Africa. He finished with figures of 5-56 in helping bowl England out just before tea. Imran Tahir claimed 3-63 in an impressive spell of bowling from the leg-spinner.
Ian Bell top scored for the home side with a resilient 55 from 220 balls. Bell was giving some support by Matt Prior who made 40, and when the pair were batting together England still harboured hope of salvaging a draw.
Hashim Amla was awarded man of the match for his brilliant triple century as he took the game away from England.
The teams now travel to Leeds in what now becomes a must win match for England at Headingley.
