3rd Test, Wellington
Day 5: South Africa 474/9 & 189/3d draw with New Zealand 275 & 200/6

The third and final Test match finished a draw in Wellington meaning that South Africa have claimed a series victory over New Zealand.

It could have been even better for the visitors as they were just four wickets away from another Test victory. It was only thanks to an outstanding rearguard 102 not out from Kane Williamson who stood in South Africa’s way of achieving this. It was Williamson’s second century in Tests.

Morne Morkel was back to his best as he claimed all six New Zealand wickets at the cost of just 23 runs. Morkel bowled with pace and aggression, and it was only Williamson that appeared up for the fight. It was Morkel’s fifth five-wicket haul in Test cricket.

New Zealand finished at stumps on 200/6 still 188 runs adrift of South Africa when the players shook hands.

Since their readmission, South Africa have won seven of the eight series against New Zealand. The only drawn series was in 2003-04.
