Australian fast bowler Peter Siddle has signed for Essex for this summer’s Twenty20 competition.

Siddle who originated from Victoria will join up with the county in mid-June when Essex’s campaign gets underway.

Despite being a regular in Test match cricket, Siddle has only represented Australia in the shortest form of the game twice.

Speaking on Essex’s club website, head coach Paul Grayson said: “We are delighted to have signed Australia’s premier bowler in Test cricket.”

Siddle has taken 114 wickets for Australia in 31 Test matches, at an average of 29.03. After an excellent summer down under against the touring Indian’s, the 27 year-old is now ranked the 5th best bowler in the world in that form of the game.
