On his comeback from injury to the Indian side Sharma certainly showed the selectors who they will be taking to the world cup. His quite brilliant knock of 264 off 173 balls came with 33 boundaries and 9 sixes.
#This places him on a special welivecricket *star watch* for the world cup#
Virat Kohli won the toss and decided to have a bat on a good pitch. His side lost two quick wickets in the shape of Rahane (28) & Rayudu (8). This brought about the hero of the day Rohit Sharma and even he survived an early scare.
He was on just 4 when he was dropped by Perera off the bowling of Eranga. Little did Perera know just how much pain this would cause his side!
Sharma took the hint and started playing a controlled innings up to his century going at close to a run a ball. He and Virat Kohli (66) took a liking to the Sri Lankan spinners putting a partnership of 202 together in the middle overs.
All good things come to an end and as much as Kohli loves batting he sacrificed himself for the good of his partner in an unfortunate run out. You would have thought this might play on Sharma’s mind. Not at all as the big fella just got better and better.
Here is a static for you! When on 100* it only took Sharma 66 balls to reach 250 which is frankly sensational batting. Suresh Raina (13) & Robin Uthappa (16*) literally spent the last 10 overs giving him the strike.
India finished on an impressive 404 for 5. This sublime effort put the match well beyond Sri Lanka’s reach. Sri Lanka only mustered a 251 reply to give India a 153 run victory & a 4-0 series lead.
India will be looking to complete a series whitewash against Sri Lanka on 16/11 at Ranchi for the 5th & final game of the ODI series.
As for Sri Lanka surely after this they will be looking to salvage some pride.
