Former Yorkshire bowler Ajmal Shahzad has confirmed on Twitter that he has joined county champions Lancashire on loan for the rest of the summer.

Shahzad left Yorkshire last week by mutual consent in what was a dramatic week at Headingley. The 26 year-old will be the first player to to make the move from Yorkshire to Lancashire since David Byas in 2002.

Speaking on the social media site Twitter, Shahzad said: “Great feeling to be back in cricket. Appreciate Lancashire having me on a loan agreement till the end of the season.”

Lancashire will be hoping that Shahzad can make in impact after a poor start to the season losing three out of the four championship matches they have played. Their most recent defeat came at the hands of Nottinghamshire at Old Trafford.

Shahzad will also be hoping that a move to a division 1 club can push his claims for an international place again.
