Second Twenty20 international, Old Trafford
No Result. South Africa 77-5 (9 overs), England 29-2 (4.1 overs).
With 5 more balls being needed to constitute a game the umpires took the players off the field after heavy rain hit Manchester.
South Africa batted first and reached 77-5 from their 9 overs. Yet again, Hasim Amla top scored for the visitors with 47 not out from just 30 balls. His innings included 7 fours.
In reply England had reached 29-2 when conditions became unplayable. Craig Kieswetter (1) and Luke Wright (14) were the men to be dismissed.
It was a great shame that play had to be abandoned on what was an excellent surface for 20 over cricket. England now know they must win the final match of the series at Edgbaston on Wednesday night to level the series 1-1.
At the conclusion of Wednesday’s match both teams head out to Sri Lanka to compete in the Twenty20 World Cup. England are the current holders of the competition after defeating Australia in Barbados two years ago.
