Kevin Pietersen has been left out of England’s touring party that travels to India for a four match Test series in November. Pietersen and England held talks this week but their differences that had built up this summer could not be resolved and Pietersen missed out on selection.

Pietersen has not featured for England since he was dropped for the third Test match against South Africa this summer after admitting to sending provocative texts to the South African players. At the conclusion of the series current captain Andrew Strauss retired from Test cricket which in so people’s eyes was a way back in for the Surrey batsman, with Alastair Cook taking over the captaincy. However, it looks as though Pietersen will have more making up to do with the England management before he is considered again for selection.

The squad includes two uncapped players in Joe Root and Nick Compton. Michael Carberry was tipped to open with Cook after Strauss had hung his boots up, and the Hampshire left-hander can feel slightly hard done by.

Left-arm spinners Monty Panesar and Samit Patel have both been included in the touring party, and they will provide assistance to England’s main spinner Graeme Swann on what should be dry surfaces that facilitate spin.

There was no place for James Taylor or Ravi Bopara in the squad. However, after impressing in the shorter form of the game, there is a return for Eoin Morgan. Jonny Bairstow is also included in the squad, and he will act as a reserve wicket keeper to Matt Prior, but Bairstow is likely to feature in the first Test match as a batsman.

England’s tour of India should prove a tough examination for a side that has struggled recently in this form of the game. The first Test match gets underway on 15th November in Ahmedabad.

England Test squad for India: Alastair Cook (Essex, capt), James Anderson (Lancashire), Jonny Bairstow (Yorkshire), Ian Bell (Warwickshire), Tim Bresnan (Yorkshire), Stuart Broad (Nottinghamshire), Nick Compton (Somerset), Steven Finn (Middlesex), Graham Onions (Durham), Eoin Morgan (Middlesex), Monty Panesar (Sussex), Samit Patel (Nottinghamshire), Matt Prior (Sussex, wk), Joe Root (Yorkshire), Graeme Swann (Nottinghamshire), Jonathan Trott (Warwickshire).

I’m actually fuming about Pietersen’s omission from the touring party to India. I think we (England) would have lost with him anyway, but at least we would have been more competitive, I think it could be a 4-0 whitewash now.

Bell will be missing the 2nd test, and that basically leaves England with Cook and Trott for that test match as the only experienced batsmen.

I can’t believe that the England management have allowed this situation to develop, and then not acted to resolve it quicker now that it has happened. Whoever it is keeping Pietersen out of the side, Flower or senior players, needs to put personal feelings to one side and sort this out and get him back in. Its’ become a joke and England are self destructing.

PS, I’m not saying Pietersen is blameless in this, as he isn’t. He caused it, but there are plenty of others at fault also.
