Kevin Pietersen has swapped the Deccan Chargers for the Delhi Daredevils for the 2012 Indian Premier League. Pietersen was purchased for the price of $2m in yesterday’s auction.

Pietersen signed for the Chargers in 2011 but due to a double hernia operation he was unable to play a single match in the competition. In the inaugural IPL auction in 2009 Pietersen was snapped up by the Royal Challengers Bangalore where he spent two seasons. Pietersen was the joint most expensive overseas player in the auction, when Bangalore forked out $1.5m for his services.

This year’s IPL competition runs from 4th April to 27th May, but Pietersen will not be available for every match as he will return to England in time for their Test series against West Indies starting on 17th May.

Pietersen will be teaming up with destructive Indian opening batsman Virender Sehwag in the Delhi Daredevils line up.
