The ECB have left Kevin Pietersen out of the third and final Test match at Lord’s over reports he sent derogatory text messages to South African players about his own team-mates.

The ECB had asked Pietersen to confirm that he had not sent texts to South African players where he criticised both Andrew Strauss and Andy Flower. Pietersen was unable to do this and as a result has found himself on the side-lines.

It comes at the end of an eventful week where Pietersen had threatened to retire from Test cricket, before making a complete U turn in making himself available in all forms of the game in a You Tube clip.

Pietersen knew his place in the team was going to come under threat and it appears this video was a last throw of the dice in the hope of selection.

Jonny Bairstow comes into replace Pietersen in the squad for what is a must win match at Lord’s. England will now be hoping that they can concentrate fully on the task ahead without any further Pietersen distractions.

However, as the teams arrive to train at Lord’s today there is only one man that the press want to talk about and that is Pietersen.

Shows that Andy flower is a strong coach here. Big test coming up and dropping the key man is a big risk.
