Pietersen cautioned over dismissal

January 22, 2013

Kevin Pietersen has been cautioned over the dissent he showed following his dismissal in the third ODI against India in Ranchi.

The Surrey batsman had reached 17 before he was adjudged caught behind off Ishant Sharma, but replays have since shown that the ball flicked Pietersen’s back pocked as opposed to taking the edge of his bat. The on field umpire in question was S Ravi.

Following Ravi raising his finger, Pietersen stared at the umpire and showed his obvious disappointed at the decision before slowing dragging himself off the field of play.

Speaking in support of the decision to caution Pietersen, England Coach Asley Giles said: “We’ve got to be careful with reactions to decisions. It’s tough for the umpires here; it’s so loud that decision making is tough. We understand that.”

England will be hoping for more luck when they face India in the fourth ODI tomorrow, in what is now a must win game for the tourists. England trail 2-1 in the best of five series.

We know where the reprimand took place. Lets hope there was no finger wagging!
