IPL 5, 23rd match
Deccan Charges 157/8 (20 overs) v Delhi Daredevils 162/5 (19.1)

A breath-taking century from England’s Kevin Pietersen helped the Delhi Daredevils to a 5 wicket victory over the Deccan Chargers in Delhi today.

Batting first, the Chargers posted 157 from their allotted 20 overs which was a par score on a good batting surface. Parthiv Patel top scored for the visitors with 45 from 27 balls. Morne Morkel was the pick of the bowlers for the Daredevils, picking up 3-23 from 4 overs.

Delhi’s reply was all about Pietersen, who brought up his first IPL century. The Surrey batsman smashed 103 not out from 64 balls in an innings that delighted a packed home crowd. Pietersen’s stint at the crease included 6 fours and 9 huge sixes, but the Chargers did have opportunities to dismiss Pietersen who was dropped three times.

The Charges defeat was their fourth in as many games in this year’s tournament, and has left them rooted to the bottom of the table. Things couldn’t be more different for Delhi, as victory has seen them to the top of the table in what is proving to be a fascinating IPL.
