Kevin Pietersen has been added to the England squad for next month’s tour of India.
Pietersen flew into London to meet Alastair Cook and Andy Flower yesterday as part of his reintegration to the team.
Pietersen had recently signed a four month contract with the ECB but it remained unclear when his return to playing would be.
After a series of apologies, and England accepting that the texts Pietersen had sent to the South African team were not derogative towards the England captain Andrew Strauss, it looks as though the issue has finally been resolved.
Pietersen has not played for England since he made a brilliant century at Headingley in the second match of the South African series last summer.
Pietersen is currently playing for his IPL side the Delhi Daredevils in the Champions League in South Africa, but will join up with the England team in Abu Dhabi next week in preparation for the four Test match series with India.
Speaking about Pietersen’s inclusion, ECB National Selector Geoff Miller said: “We are pleased to welcome a player of Kevin’s proven international calibre back into the Test squad for such an important Test series.”
