Jeetan Patel the New Zealand international spinner has signed a one year contract with Warwickshire.

Patel will return to the West Midlands this summer after two short stints with the county. Last year in the three county championship matches he took 17 wickets in helping Warwickshire compete for the title.

Warwickshire will look to Patel as their main spinning option in 2012 after the retirement through injury of Ant Botha.

The off-spinner has represented his country in nine Test matches and this figure could be a lot higher if it wasn’t for Daniel Vettori who has been a regular within the Kiwi side for the past decade. Patel has also played in 39 one-day internationals, and will bring experience in all forms of the game.

Director of cricket Ashley Giles said this about the 31 year old, “It’s fantastic to have Jeetan returning to the club for the full 2012 season, he is the perfect addition to complement this talented squad.”

Warwickshire will be hoping to go one better this season then last after narrowly missing out on the division one title to Lancashire on a dramatic final day of the season.
