Sussex and England left-arm spinner Monty Panesar is to play club cricket in Sydney this winter.

He will represent Randwick Petersham who are based by Cooge beach. England’s next Test match is not until January and Panesar will be hoping to get some overs under his belt before then.

England face Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates early next year before heading to Sri Lanka for a two match Test series. In these conditions the selectors are likely to name two or three spinners in the squad, and Panesar will be hopeful of adding to his 39 Test matches this winter.

It is thought that Panesar will arrive in Sydney in time for Randwick Petersham’s second round of matches which commences on 8th October. Here, he will play alongside former Australian off-spinner Nathan Hauritz.
