Dubai, Tour match
Day 2: England 269-9 & 82-0 v Pakistan Cricket Board XI 200-9

England had a much better second day of their latest tour match in Dubai, as former first choice spinner Monty Panesar staked a claim for inclusion in the first Test match, by picking up 5 wickets.

The Sussex left-arm spinner finished with 5-57 from 29 threatening overs, in which he made life uncomfortable for all of the Pakistan Cricket Board batsmen. England’s all-round fine bowling display forced the tourists to declare on 200-9 which was a deficit of 69 runs. Chris Tremlett would have been pleased with his return to the side as he claimed 2-30 from 14 overs.

With 22 overs reaming in the day England reached stumps on 82-0. Jonathan Trott (39*) and Andrew Strauss (36*) were the men that saw England to the close, as they made batting look easier than at any other point in the match. Trott was promoted up the order by England in order to gain time in the middle after Alastair Cook’s first innings century.

England will hope for quick runs in the morning in order to force a result tomorrow afternoon when it comes to bowling again. Panesar will be looking forward to tomorrow’s spell on a dry wicket where he hopes to further his chances of selection in the first Test match which gets underway on 17th January.
