Panesar extends Sussex stay

England left-arm spinner Monty Panesar has signed a three-year extension to his current contract at Sussex.

The 29-year-old who took 69 in the County Championship last season will remain at Hove until the end of the 2015 season. He has now captured 121 first-class wickets across his two seasons at Sussex.

Panesar joined Sussex from Northamptonshire in 2009, where he had hoped a move would bring about a change in fortune to his faltering international career.

Paneasar has a good record in Test cricket, having played 39 times and taking 126 wickets. However as his international career developed, it was felt that Panesar lacked the variation required to improve and be the spinner that everyone had hoped he’d be.

After two good seasons on the south coast Panesar will be hopeful of selection for England this winter where they travel to the sub-continent where spin will play a major factor in determining matches.
