Derbyshire put themselves into a good position on day 1 of their LV County Championship match against Leicestershire thanks to an outstanding hat-trick from the ever reliable Tony Palladino.
Tim Groenewald was probably the pick of the Derbyshire bowlers finishing up with figures of 5-29, but it was the former Essex opening bowler that stole the headlines.
Palladino removed Michael Thornley, Ned Eckersley and Ramnaresh Sarwan in successive balls sparking wild celebrations by his teammates. Palladino also recorded his 200th first class wicket in the process.
With the score on 7-3 it looked like Derbyshire were going to run through Leicestershire’s batting line up, but Matthew Boyce made 50, and Kadeer Ali 48, helping the home side to 177 all out.
Derbyshire will resume this morning on 5-0 in the hope of building a big first innings lead.
