New Look England Test Side

June 12, 2014

It can take time to build a consistently successful team and Alistair Cook alongside Peter Moores will be hoping this new group will gel together this summer and reconstruct some of the damage done in Australia

Swann now six months into retirement, Peitersen having been banished, Trott still recovering from a stress related illness has resulted in England calling upon Worcestershire’s Moeen Ali, Middlesex opener Sam Robson and Sussex all-rounder Chris Jordon

England and their new coaching team will hope to introduce a new team ethos starting at Lords today and those new faces will be hoping to play their part alongside those who are only very slightly more established in Test cricket. Liam Plunkett is included for the first Test after not having played International cricket in 7 years

Some would have liked to have seen a fourth new cap in Jos Buttler, but Matt Prior has earned a recall based on his past performances in an England shirt

There is certainly a sense that England will want to try and rattle the Sri Lankans going in with a four man pass attack lead by Anderson and Broad backed up by Plunkett and Jordon  but ultimately it’s the style of Test cricket that England play this summer that will be most exciting. Many would welcome a more attacking and entertaining England Team
