England have announced their squad for their upcoming tour of Sri Lanka and there is no place for Middlesex batsman Eoin Morgan in the touring party.

Morgan who struggled to make in impact in both the Test and one-day matches in the UAE has been left out of a 16 man squad that includes four spinners.

Speaking of the decision to drop Morgan, Andy Flower said: “He’s had a tough tour of the UAE, we’ve been here for two months and it’s been hard work for him. I still think he has a very exciting future in Test cricket, he’s only 25 years old and he’s a very talented player, a very confident player and a very dangerous player.”

Off spinner James Tredwell has been recalled to the squad and will act as cover for both Monty Panesar and Graeme Swann. Samit Patel replaces Morgan, and the Nottinghamshire batsman also offers England an option of a left arm spinner enabling England to play five bowlers.

After missing the Test series in the UAE England bring Tim Bresnan back into bolster the seam bowling ranks. However, there is no place for Graham Onions, or Chris Tremlett who is still recovering from a back injury.

The first Test match gets underway against Sri Lanka on the 26th March in Galle.
