Lasith Malinga the Sri Lankan fast bowler will not be coming to England this summer to play for Middlesex in this year’s Twenty20 competition.
Malinga has pulled out of his contract due to injury concerns. The 28 year-old originally signed a seven-game deal with the London based county.
Malinga has just finished playing in this year’s IPL tournament after taking 22 wickets for the Mumbai Indians at an average of 15.90.
Malinga was suffering with knee and back injuries throughout the tournament and a decision by the player as well as the Sri Lankan Cricket Board has been made to rest Malinga.
Speaking on the club website, Middlesex director of cricket Angus Fraser said: “I totally understand Lasith’s concerns as his workload has been and is high. Everyone was looking forward to working with Lasith. I am disappointed we are to be denied of his services.”
