South African batsman Neil McKenzie will return to Hampshire for a third season in 2012.

McKenzie was the only Hampshire batsman to pass 1,000 first-class runs in 2011 and has been prolific in his two seasons at the Rose Bowl.

The 36 year-old will arrive at Hampshire in mid-June in time for the start of the Friends Life T20 campaign. The Royals first match in the competition gets underway at Hove against Sussex on Thursday 14th June.

McKenzie brings a vast amount of experience to the Hampshire dressing room after featuring in 58 Test matches for South Africa. In this time McKenzie recorded 3,253 runs at an average of 37.39, with 5 Test match centuries.

The club based on the south coast of England will be hoping that McKenzie can reproduce the form he has shown in previous seasons and help get Hampshire back into division 1 of the County Championship, after relegation last year.

Speaking about re-joining Hampshire, McKenzie said: “I’m really looking forward to coming back to the Rose Bowl, last year was tough for the team, particularly as we had hoped to build on what we had achieved in 2010, so I’m looking forward to making some good contributions for the club going forward”.
