Sri Lankan fast bowler Lasith Malinga has signed for Middlesex for this year’s Friends Life Twenty20 competition.

Malinga will arrive in time to play in the county’s final 7 games of the group stages due to commitments with the Sri Lanka one-day squad. Malinga should feature on 21st June for Middlesex when they take on local rivals Essex.

The 28 year-old is currently playing for Mumbai Indians in the IPL, and has taken 20 wickets, which is more than any bowler. In his 108 match T20 career, Malinga has taken 151 wickets at an average of 16.4.

Speaking of the addition of Malinga, Director of cricket Angus Fraser said: “In T20 cricket every county is looking for a bowler that provides their attack with variety, the ability to bowl during powerplays and at the death, basically something different from the norm and in Lasith we will have the best in the world.”
