Kevin Pietersen has been fined by the ECB for criticising Sky television commentator Nick Knight on Twitter.

Managing director Hugh Morris and head coach Andy Flower were part of the decision making team that deemed the remarks a breach of the England conditions of employment. The fine was an undisclosed sum for comments about the former left handed opening batsman during the first Test at Lords.

On Twitter, Pietersen said: “Can somebody please tell me how Knight has worked his way into the commentary box for Tests? Ridiculous.”

It’s not the first time Pietersen has caused controversy on the social networking site. He previously announced when he was dropped from England’s one-day squad.

One of the main reasons the ECB were so sensitive over Pietersen’s comments regarding Nick Knight, was that Sky have agreed a new four-year deal to show live international and county cricket, believed to be worth £260m to the ECB.
