Somerset 175-5 (20 overs) beat Warwickshire 165-3 (20 overs) by 10 runs

Somerset reached the Twenty20 quarter-finals last night after a 10 run victory over Warwickshire at Edgbaston. Somerset have now reached the knockout stage of this competition five years running.

Batting first the visitors posted a competitive score of 175-5 from their allotted 20 overs. Craig Kieswetter top scored with an important 76 from just 53 balls.

Warwickshire got off to a poor start with the bat as they slipped to 65-3, but half centuries from Darren Maddy (67*) and Laurie Evans (51*) kept the home side in the contest. However, some exceptional death bowling from Alfonso Thomas and Yasir Arafat saw Somerset to victory.

The teams that have already qualified for the last eight are Somerset, Northants, Durham, Nottinghamshire, and Hampshire.

It is expected that Essex and Surrey will join these sides in the latter part of the competition, although Middlesex still have a faint chance of proceeding depending on tonight’s results from the South division.
