Kent County Cricket Club have decided not to renew Azhar Mahmood’s contract for the 2013 season.

The former Pakistan all-rounder has just been released so that he can play in the Sri Lankan Premier League for the next two weeks. Mahmood also plays a big part in the IPL which runs through the early part of the English domestic season making him unavailable for several games.

The former Surrey man has played in 12 one-day matches for Kent this year but has only played in one County Championship match. There have been rumours that despite Kent not renewing his contract, he may still appear in next year’s FLT20 for the County.

The 37 year old has played in 176 first class matches scoring nearly 8,000 runs and taking 611 wickets. Mahmood has hit 9 centuries including one-double century for Surrey against Middlesex at The Oval.
