Second Test, Hyderabad
Day 4: India 503 beat Australia 237-9 dec & 131 by an innings and 135 runs
India have thrashed Australia by an innings and 135 runs in the second Test in Hyderabad giving them a 2-0 series lead over the tourists.
Needing 266 to make India bat again in their final innings, Australia capitulated to 131 all out, as the Indian spinners yet again ran riot.
Starting day four on 74-2, the visitors lost their last eight wickets for just 57 runs as R.Ashwin claimed 5-63 with Australia unable to pick the off-spinners variation.
Not a single Australian batsman reached a half century in the second innings with Ed Cowan top scoring for the tourists with 44 in nearly three hours at the crease. The in-form Michael Clarke could only manage 16 after his first innings 91. Clarke admitted after the game that his side’s shot selection was ‘horrible’.
With two Test matches remaining India now know they cannot lose the series, but MS Dhoni’s side will be hot favourites to go on and win the series 4-0. Dhoni has now overtaken Sourav Ganguly as India’s most successful Test captain with 22 victories under his belt.
The third Test begins in Mohali next Thursday with Australia needing a minor miracle to turn this around.
