Out of form batsman Phillip Hughes will join Worcestershire for the second half of the 2012 county season.

Hughes, 23, is due to arrive in June and remain at the county until the end of the summer. The Australian opening batsman is currently in the worst form of his life, after a run of low scores in the recent series against New Zealand, where Chris Martin has exposed Hughes’ weakness to the ball moving away from his body.

Hughes has some experience of county cricket, and has featured for both Middlesex and Hampshire in recent seasons. Despite his poor current form where he has only recorded one half century in eight Test match innings, Hughes has had success at county level. During Hughes’ short time at Middlesex, he scored 574 first class runs in just three games prior to the 2009 Ashes series.

Worcestershire will be hoping that runs at the top of the order from Phil Hughes will help in their aim to remain a division one club after defying the odds of beating relegation last year in 2011.
