As I write my first blog for We Live Cricket roughly 2 months into the season, Derbyshire sit top of division 2 of the LV County Championship. With 4 wins from are first 7 games, we are unbeaten and could not have wished for a better start to our campaign. Our form has probably surprised many pundits, with a few backing us for the wooden spoon. Having trained hard and knowing the ability and hunger of our squad we know we are capable of performing well and will be trying our hardest to maintain this good start.
Although we have been luckier than some teams regarding the weather so far, as a team we have still had enough time off the field to partake in some gaming to pass the time. Whether its Words with friends on the iPhone, or Tiger woods/FIFA 12 on our portable PS3 kindly donated by our generous chairman Chris Grant, one man seems to come out on top more often than not..
David ‘fruit bat’ Wainwright our off season acquisition from Yorkshire is crushing the opposition on and off the field. A master of gamesmanship and knows exactly when to put me off as I’m lining up a six footer to halve a hole in our nightly away trip grudge matches on Tiger, which as scorelines go I’m still not off the mark.
Special mention must go to our hard hitting all rounder Ross Whitely for his attempt at using a Words with friends app that allowed him to play at a world champion level, he was quickly found out after giving a few lads a severe towelling.
Back to Essex
After witnessing a rousing reception for Wainers on his return to Yorkshire, I was somewhat optimistic that I might receive a decent one on my return to Essex with whom I spent 12 years of my life representing.
I was a little disappointed therefore when after my name was announced to open the bowling from the river end on the first morning, the end result was more like the Vic Reeves bad joke skit on shooting stars, much to the amusement of my teammates. All that was needed was tumbleweed to sweep over the wicket to complete my humiliation. Well at least I wasn’t booed so it could have been worse.
We had a fantastic 3 day win against a strong Essex side and we returned to Derbados 26 points clear at the top.
Till next time go well guys
