1st Test: Antigua
West Indies 522 & 102/1 beat New Zealand 351 & 272 by 9 wickets

West Indies beat New Zealand by 9 wickets in the first Test match in Antigua thanks to some brilliant batting from their returning opener Chris Gayle.

Gayle made a superb 150 in the first innings helping West Indies to a sizeable first innings lead. Kemar Roach then did the damage in New Zealand’s second innings, claiming 5-60 in helping set West Indies a target of just 102 for victory in the final innings of the match.

The home side eased to this target thanks yet again to Gayle. The strong left-hander made 64* at better than a run a ball sealing the victory by 9 wickets on the last day.

The victory for West Indies is only their third against a major Test team (excludes Bangladesh and Zimbabwe) since the start of 2009. The win is also their first triumph against New Zealand since victory in Barbados in 1996.
